I want to show people that knitwear is more than just a jumper. There is so much more that you can do. It’s actually incredibly exciting and the possibilities are endless.
Genevieve Sweeney creates no ordinary knitwear.
Using unique yarns and innovative colour blends, the brand fuses contemporary design with traditional techniques that result in a luxurious, high quality finish.
The label will begin with a collection for both menswear and womenswear, bringing together an exciting collaboration of silhouettes and key seasonal pieces that firmly establish the label as a key player in the premium knitwear market.
My inspiration comes from personal experiences, travelling, art and design and culture.
I am also very inspired by unusual yarns, exploring different stitch structures and pushing the knitting machine to see what can be created.
My AW16 collection was inspired by a trip to Iceland, I loved the contrasting tones of colour, Ice white, Aurora blues/greens, deep dark navy lakes and pop accents of pink on the Harp concert hall.
1. AW16 Agnes I love the yarns and their natural characteristics, one is very matt and shrinks when you first steam it, the other has a soft fur like feel and holds its size; therefore creating this embossed effect.
2. Kelso Two beautiful yarns, wool alpaca blend and silk. I love sheer knitwear and this jumper is so subtly sexy with the sheer silk stripe on the upper body and above the cuff. I love breaking up the knitwear with a glimpse of the skin.
3. Celine The jumper that everyone must have in their wardrobe, the fabric has a beautiful drape, a slouch cropped fit which sits so nicely on the shoulder. Also the creases drop out instantly if your travelling and have throw the jumper into a bag.
I learnt to knit at the age of 5 and havent stopped since! I studied at Nottingham Trent University and graduated with a 1st class honours then went on to work in the industry, designing and developing for high end brands such as Rag & Bone, Hugo Boss, Burberry, Lyle & Scott.
Even though I have moved around alot with work, my knitting machines always came with me. When I moved back to England i rented a studio and started buying old machinery that needed restoring. I have a few different types which gives me flexibly to try out yarn mixes and techniques, explore and design on a machine.
To bump into someone in the street wearing your design! Also being able to work with such amazingly skilled knitters in the UK to produce the collection.
travel agent, im amazing at finding holidays for champagne taste but with lemonade funds.
Designing and selecting yarns, or working in the factories in the UK to develop the production.
