“We combine the finest materials. Our style is minimalist, our details are subtle, and our creations are made entirely in Portugal. “
Basus is a young, contemporary French brand based in Paris.
Thanks to its creator Florence Desmarty, Basus sets itself apart with a technical approach to fashion and a particular taste for exploration.
A woman of production, the young designer has always had a particular attraction to mixtures of materials, pure lines and the complexity of clothing.
Since the first pieces in 2011, the community of the brand hasn’t stopped growing over the course of the events and collections largely inspired by nature, design and urbanism.
2014 led to a turning point with the development of cork leather. This new material has become an essential element of the collections and the concept store in Paris…
I always try to keep a minimalist and clean style. That’s why I am naturally inspired by modern art and designs.
Materials are also a big thing in the creation process. I just love to mix noble fabrics, different qualities that have nothing to do with each other…
I love the Sweater District. I love the large yokes on the back of the sleeves. They are hidden when you stand in the front but this the killing detail for me.
I heard that our clients can’t stop touching the material as a tic when they wear it. My favorite is the white one.
When I explored the cork, I came to understand how we could get it so thin. I realized all the possibilities that such a soft, natural material would offer in a ready to wear collection.
Then, I started thinking of it as a leather substitute in use it in the FW15 collection for the first time. You will be amazed to see what we can do with it in next collection
We decided to call this new material Cork leather or “leather of cork” because it’s so close to leather in term of handing and feeling and we wanted people to understand this easily. But in fact, it has nothing to do with leather and actually, cork “leather” is not the right way to define our thing since we don’t use animal skin.
On the contrary, the production of cork is good for environment as the leaf extraction does not require the destruction of trees.
And the healthier the environment, the better the cork quality
I would be a production girl! Actually that’s where I belong.
I started creating things for fun for Stan, (my partner in life and now in business). He encouraged me, and made me believe in myself as a designer.
Well, Stan and I just had a new baby. I love Basus, our first kid of course, but I would lie if I didn’t tell you that my favourite is when all the family get together outside the office.
